Cape Girardeau's entry in the Let's Put on a Show contest sponsored by the radio program "Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?" was recognized but didn't win the prize during Saturday's broadcast of the show.
Prescott, Ariz., home of cowboy poets and a jug band that wrote a song about the comedy quiz show's emcee, won the opportunity to host the show in April.
The entry was submitted by KRCU FM 90.9. Host Michael Feldman noted that the Southeast Missourian had editorialized in favor of entering the contest and said KRCU's application was very strong.
But being the hometown of broadcaster Rush Limbaugh apparently didn't improve Cape Girardeau's chances with Feldman. "That's why they lost," he said. Whether he was joking was impossible to know.
Greg Petrowich, station manager at KRCU, doesn't know if Cape Girardeau will go on the program's list of potential broadcast sites. Stations that host the show usually have to pay for it and sell tickets to recoup their costs.
