An autopsy on a Cape Girardeau man found in an Illinois lake confirmed he drowned in an accident.
Caleb Michael Lumos, 23, of Cape Girardeau, was found Sunday afternoon in Lake of Egypt, about six miles south of Marion, Ill., in Johnson County.
The autopsy performed Monday revealed no trauma to the victim's body, and preliminary results indicated he drowned in an accident, county Coroner John McCuan said. Results of toxicological testing could take another month.
Lumos was at a party near the lake when he told friends he was going to a house to fetch beer around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Johnson County Sheriff Elry Faulkner.
When he did not return by 2 a.m. Sunday, a friend call the sheriff's department to see if he had been arrested, Faulkner said. The same friend called later again at 10 a.m. to report Lumos missing. His body was found in the lake at 4:55 p.m. Sunday by rescue crews.
