A Cape Girardeau man accused of kicking a police officer in the groin pleaded guilty Wednesday and was sentenced to two months in jail. Zechariah L. James, 28, of 621 S. Henderson Ave., was originally charged with felony second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer in the Aug. 4 attack. As he was being arrested for peace disturbance early that morning, James became belligerent and kicked an arresting officer in the groin, police spokesman Jason Selzer said at the time. Another officer at the scene used a Taser to subdue James. During an appearance Wednesday before Associate Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp, James pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor assault of a law enforcement officer. Kamp sentenced James to serve 60 days in jail.
