Illinois State Police arrested a Cape Girardeau man on Monday after he led officers on a chase over the Mississippi River, police said.

Cape Girardeau police pulled over Richard Ryan Gilmore, 43, about 4:45 p.m. Monday because his Chevrolet Trailblazer was identified as a suspicious vehicle in front of the Whiskey River bar on Independence Street, according to Sgt. Adam Glueck.

Officers found out Gilmore had an active arrest warrant for criminal non-support in Cape Girardeau County, and Gilmore drove away during the middle of the traffic stop, Glueck said.

Officers pursued Gilmore through Cape Girardeau into Illinois before turning the chase over to Illinois State Police, Glueck said.

Gilmore remained in custody in the Tri-County Detention Center in Ullin, Illinois, on

Tuesday and has not waived extradition, Glueck said.
