A Cape Girardeau man was convicted Thursday of unlawful use of a weapon, a class D felony.

Leon Cortez Wilder Jr., 32, was convicted of threatening a relative with a large-caliber revolver Sept. 21 in the 800 block of South Ellis Street after she made him leave her home.

Circuit Judge Michael Gardner convicted Wilder after a guilty plea was issued Thursday.

Wilder waived his right to a trial by jury Feb. 16.

Gardner sentenced him to four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections but suspended execution of the sentence and placed him on five years of probation, with the conditions he submit to chemical and psychiatric evaluations and have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.
