Cape man gets 26 years for child pornography

A 26-year federal prison sentence was handed down Thursday to a Cape Girardeau man for child pornography charges.

Terry Corbin, 57, pleaded guilty June 23 to transportation of child pornography and possession of child pornography. During a federal court appearance in Cape Girardeau, U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel sentenced Corbin to 320 months in federal prison, according to a news release from federal prosecutor Catherine L. Hanaway's office.

Corbin admitted that on March 3, 2005, he e-mailed another person a video file of child pornography using his computer, the release stated. The same day, a federal search warrant was executed on Corbin's home and FBI agents seized his computer.

Analysis of saved files on the computer revealed more than 600 images of child pornography, the release stated.

Corbin estimated he had more than 20,000 images and he collected pornographic child images like some people collect baseball cards, according to the release.

Citing a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, the release said child pornography is "intrinsically related to the sexual abuse of children ... the materials produced are a permanent record of the children's participation and the harm to the child is exacerbated by their circulation."

When released from federal prison, Corbin will be placed on supervised release for the remainder of his life.
