A Cape Girardeau man was charged over the weekend with beating his girlfriend and pulling a knife on an arresting officer.

Police responded to 926 S. Pacific St. around 12:44 a.m. Sunday on a call of domestic assault, according to police spokesman Jason Selzer.

They arrived to find a broken-in door, shattered glass on the floor and, inside, Kenneth E. Brown, 38, of 205 S. Middle St., stomping and kicking the head of his 44-year-old girlfriend lying on a couch, Selzer said.

An officer pulled out his Taser and ordered Brown to step away and outside the home, which he did.

Once outside, Brown reached behind his back and pulled out a kitchen knife, Selzer said. The officer put away his Taser and drew his handgun, to which Brown responded by dropping his knife.

Brown is charged with felony burglary, domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia for a crack pipe that was found on him following his arrest, Selzer said.

Bond was set at $25,000.
