A Cape Girardeau man was in custody, charged with a felony and a misdemeanor, after shots were fired in a southside neighborhood early Wednesday morning. Officers responded about 12:15 a.m. to the 900 block of Hackberry Street, after receiving reports of shots fired, said officer Darin Hickey.

A Cape Girardeau man was in custody, charged with a felony and a misdemeanor, after shots were fired in a southside neighborhood early Wednesday morning. Officers responded about 12:15 a.m. to the 900 block of Hackberry Street, after receiving reports of shots fired, said officer Darin Hickey. During their investigation, officers contacted Travis Shavers, 28, in the parking lot at Denny's, 161 West Drive, Hickey said. Officers recovered a 9 mm handgun and authorities charged Shavers with felony unlawful use of a weapon for discharging a firearm while intoxicated. He was also charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon for possessing a firearm while intoxicated in the parking lot at Denny's. No injuries were reported in the incident. Shavers remained in the Cape Girardeau County Jail on $7,500 bond Wednesday.
