Cape man charged with sex crimes

An arrest warrant was issued this morning for a 20-year-old Cape Girardeau man wanted on suspicion of fondling an underage girl and showing her pornographic video.

The violations allegedly occurred on Thursday. Joshua Jonathan Smith, 805 Perry Ave., is accused of touching the breasts and genitals of a 13-year-old girl and watching a pornographic video with her, according to a Cape Girardeau Police Department account.

According to the report Smith allegedly invited the girl into a bedroom while he was watching the video and began touching her. Smith was arrested early this morning while trying to gain entry to the girl's residence, according to the report, after police found a small amount of marijuana in his possession.

As of Monday afternoon Smith was in the Cape Girardeau city jail awaiting transport to the Cape Girardeau County jail.

Smith faces two felony counts of first-degree child molestation, a felony count of supplying pornography to a minor and a count of misdemeanor drug possession.
