A Cape Girardeau man faces assault charges after allegedly groping a woman in the parking lot of her place of employment as she was leaving for the day.
Leonard McAdory Jr., 34, 623 Jefferson Ave., was charged with first-degree trespassing and third-degree assault, or knowingly causing physical contact with another person knowing the other person will regard the contact as offensive or provocative.
The female victim was leaving her Cape Girardeau employer around 8:05 p.m. Monday when she was approached by a man asking her for money, said Sgt. Barry Hovis, spokesman for the police department.
The subject then attempted to hug her and began fondling her when he did so, Hovis said. The victim was able to escape at that point.
The victim stated that the man who accosted her was intoxicated and had a gold tooth.
Surveillance video confirmed McAdory's identity, capturing the entire incident, Hovis said.
McAdory was later identified by the victim, and the incident occurred on premises from which McAdory was previously barred, Hovis said.
If convicted, McAdory faces up to six months in jail on the trespassing charge and up to 15 days' imprisonment on the assault charge.
McAdory has two prior convictions for unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
