BENTON, Mo. -- A Cape Girardeau man has been arrested by the Scott County Sheriff's Department in connection with a string of thefts and property damage near Miner, Mo.
Curtis P. Williams Jr. has been charged with property damage, felony stealing and eight counts of misdemeanor stealing.
The department received a report early Thursday morning from a person who confronted a man outside of a residence north of Miner. The suspect left a bicycle at the residence, then ran and hid in a nearby cornfield, according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.
Deputies accompanied by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and officers with the Miner Police Department located Williams, Walter said in a news release. There they discovered evidence that Williams had been stealing from nearby residences, according to the release.
Eleven vehicles had also been broken into near the area and property stolen. Walter said the majority of stolen items were recovered from Williams.
Williams was in custody at the Scott County Jail on $1,000 cash-only bond.
