A Cape Girardeau man was charged this week with five counts of second-degree burglary in connection to a series of thefts at Towers South on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.

According to a probable-cause statement by officer Kenneth Mayberry, Marcus L. Woods, 24, admitted Jan. 6 that he and an accomplice entered 15 dorm rooms in Towers South by kicking in doors. Woods also admitted to stealing high-tech items from the rooms. The items reported missing include televisions, cameras, computers, a cell phone, a gaming system, a voice recorder and miscellaneous jewelry.

Video surveillance of Towers South reveals two subjects entering the west stairwell at 10:24 p.m. Dec. 31 and exiting a couple of hours later with televisions and a bag, the statement said. A Towers South resident identified one of the subjects as Woods and the other as the accomplice named by Woods in his admission, according to the statement.
