Cape man arrested in Nov. 2 Hanover Street shooting

Cape Girardeau police made an arrest Tuesday in one of the shootings on South Hanover Street that occurred the first week of November.

Terrvell K. Williams, 23, of Cape Girardeau faces charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Police picked up Williams at a traffic stop around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the 101 mile marker on Interstate 55 near Cape Girardeau city limits, said Sgt. Barry Hovis, spokesman for the police department.

Charges against Williams were filed late Nov. 14, but he wasn't placed in custody until Tuesday.

According to Hovis, Williams was also being investigated for possible drug involvement but hasn't been charged with anything related to the probe.

Williams, 23, of 140 S. Henderson Ave., is accused of shooting Darrell Wiseman in the thigh at the intersection of Cousin and Hanover streets. Police responded to the shooting at about 6:40 p.m. Nov. 2 to find that Wiseman had been injured and received private transport to the hospital.

The shooter had already fled the scene by the time police arrived, but a witness described seeing Wiseman standing near his white Mercury Grand Marquis in front of 412 S. Hanover St. before gunshots rang out, according to a probable-cause statement by Detective Jim Smith.

The witness told police she was driving home just after dark when she saw Wiseman. She also saw Williams, whom she knew, standing in the middle of the intersection as she approached.

Williams held a pistol in his hand, and the witness saw fire coming from the barrel, the statement said.

The witness said Williams stood about three feet from Wiseman's car while he fired, as at least four people tumbled from the vehicle and fled.

The witness recognized one of those people as Wiseman's uncle, Floyd G. Wiseman, who was arrested Nov. 10 and charged with drug trafficking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police found at least three bullet holes in Wiseman's car.

The conflict between the two men originated at a dance at a rented hall and was an ongoing altercation, police said. The conlfict may have been drug-related or involved a dispute over a woman, Hovis said.

Williams is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
