MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- A Cape Girardeau man was arrested Friday in Murphysboro after allegedly fleeing from police in a high-speed pursuit along with two other men, including an attempted-murder suspect.

According to Murphysboro police, Nigelle Bird, 20, of Cape Girardeau, Daivon L. Harris, 21, of Murphysboro and Jyshawn J. Jackson, 21, of Alsip, Ill., fled after officers attempted to pull over the vehicle they were in. The chase took place about 6 p.m. and ended after the suspects' vehicle lost a wheel. The three men then fled on foot and were apprehended a short time later and taken to Jackson County Jail in Illinois.

Bird was charged with resisting arrest and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He will appear before a judge Tuesday to post bond, according to Jackson County Jail officials.

Harris also was charged with resisting arrest and posted bond shortly after being taken to the jail.

Jackson, who initially refused to give his name to police, was charged with resisting arrest and aggravated fleeing to elude. After he was identified, police discovered he has an outstanding arrest warrant in Champaign County, Ill., for aggravated battery/discharge of firearm and attempted first-degree murder.
