A Cape Girardeau man was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree domestic assault, a felony.

The wife of David James Preston said he was physically aggressive during a verbal altercation in the 1100 block of South Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau police officer Jacob Carter wrote in a probable-cause statement.

Carter saw the victim had a laceration on her upper lip and had other injuries consistent with physical abuse from Preston, according to a probable-cause statement.

Preston, 52, said his wife was the aggressor in the altercation, but Carter did not notice any signs of injuries on Preston, Carter reported.

Preston is on probation for distribution of a controlled substance, and he also was charged with domestic assault Aug. 10, Carter wrote.

Preston's bond was set at $15,000.
