The city of Cape Girardeau's leaf pickup routes resumed Wednesday after a nearly two-week hiatus because of winter weather.
Snow and ice in yards and along roadsides prevented city crews from collecting leaves with its automated truck starting Dec. 5.
The running of the routes is now expected to continue through the scheduled end of the program March 28, barring any more weather-related issues.
City public information manager Nicolette Brennan said in an email Thursday that crews are finishing the fourth of six routes this week and should start the fifth next week. After the sixth route is completed, crews will resume running unscheduled routes through the end of the program.
Crews run the unscheduled routes to try to make a pass at collecting leaves in all areas of the city more than once per season.
A map of the scheduled routes with approximate collection dates and more information on the leaf pickup program is available on the city's website, cityofcapegirardeau.org/leaf.
