The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will hold its final concert of the season this week, while the Jackson Municipal Band will hold its final concert of the season at its regular venue, the Jackson City Park band shell.
Ron Nall will direct the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band at 8 p.m. today at the Capaha Park band shell. Special guest conductors will be children from the audience who will be invited on stage to join the concert. Special entertainment will be provided by the Jerry Ford Orchestra. The municipal band will perform "Miami March," a medley of tunes by Harold Arlen, "Colorama" featuring trombonist Gene Stiman, selections from the musicals "Chicago" and "The Sound of Music" and "The Cape Muny Band March."
The Jackson Municipal Band's final performance will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson City Park band shell. Special guest entertainment will be provided by the Rivermen Quartet, a local gospel group that performs around the region. The municipal band will perform "Loch and Mountain" by Robert W. Smith, selections from Leroy Anderson arranged by James Barnes, selections from "The Magnificent Seven," a collection of hits from the 1960s and marches by John Philip Sousa and others. The Jackson band will perform its last concert Aug. 9 at the gazebo on the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse lawn.
