Cape intersection to close for 25 days next month

Contractor Nip Kelley Construction will close the intersection of Big Bend Road and East Cape Rock Drive beginning Tuesday for about 25 days, Cape Girardeau officials announced Thursday in a news release.

Detour signs will be in place routing southbound traffic to Lexington Avenue and northbound traffic to Bertling Street. Large-truck traffic should follow the designated truck route. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in the area or choose an alternate route during the construction period, the release said.

The project on Big Bend is funded by Transportation Trust Fund 3, approved by voters in 2005. The overall $1.9 million project calls for widening Big Bend Road from Second Street to just north of East Cape Rock Drive.
