A fire occurred at 6:35 a.m. Monday at 435 Koch Ave. in Cape Girardeau.
The fire began in the attic and light smoke was coming from the structure, according to a report from the fire department.
All the occupants of the home had evacuated by the time fire personnel arrived, and no injuries were reported. The home sustained moderate fire and smoke damage, according to the report.
The fire was found in the attic of the single-story frame house behind a wall between bedrooms and a bathroom area. The fire appeared to be from electrical problems and was accidental, the fire report said. The meter also had been pulled from the home for safety purposes.
The flames and smoke were controlled within 10 minutes of the fire department arriving, and firefighters ventilated the home by removing an attic vent and using pressure fans. Fire personnel remained on the scene for an hour.
