Crews immediately gained entry through the garage and used a hose in the attic area to fight the fire. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 30 minutes, but stayed on scene to monitor hot spots in the insulation for five hours, according to Battalion Chief Brad Dillow.

Scott City and Jackson Fire Department was called in for additional coverage in Cape Girardeau.
