SIKESTON, Mo. -- A woman has turned herself in to police after reportedly shooting at her former boyfriend.
At 1 a.m. Tuesday, a woman suspected in a shooting Monday turned herself in to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, according to Capt. Jim McMillen, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety's public information officer.
Tawanna Danielle Pearson, 27, of Cape Girardeau is being held at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, McMillen reported in a news release Tuesday.
New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson filed charges Tuesday of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree domestic assualt, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree assault and property damage against Pearson, the release said.
The charges stem from an incident that began about 4:15 p.m. Monday, when Sikeston officers were sent to 940 S. Kingshighway in reference to a subject who said someone had shot his vehicle.
"A 23-year-old Bertrand resident said he and another female exited Dollar General and got into their vehicle to leave. The man said an ex-girlfriend pulled up next to him before they pulled out and shot at his vehicle as they sat inside," McMillen said in a news release.
The victim told officers he fled in his vehicle as his ex-girlfriend pursued and shot at him again while in the parking lot. The victim reported he was shot at five times, with bullets striking his vehicle twice.
No one was injured during the attack, according to McMillen.
"The victim positively identified the shooter as his ex-girlfriend and explained she was upset because he no longer wanted a relationship with her," he added.
Police began searching the area and quickly found the suspect's unoccupied vehicle in a parking lot at the South Point Plaza, 1213 S. Main St. Officers also searched nearby businesses, looking for the suspect, but she was not found until she turned herself in to Cape Girardeau police.
Pearson remains in custody at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, where she was taken from Cape Girardeau for questioning, Tuesday's release said. Her bond has been set at $75,000 cash only.
