WASHINGTON -- Two Cape Girardeau woman are serving summer internships with U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan, D-Mo.
Kristin McDougal and Morgan Cook are getting a first-hand look at Senate operations serving on the junior Missouri senator's staff.
"The internship program provides them with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with our government," Carnahan said. "We are pleased to have Kristin and Morgan here."
Both women began their internships May 30.
McDougal is a 1998 graduate of Cape Central High School and currently attends Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. She plans to graduate in 2002 with a bachelor of science degreee in finance. Her internship ends Friday.
Cook, the daughter of former Missouri Secretary of State Bekki Cook, grew up in Cape Girardeau and attends the University of Missouri-Columbia. She plans to graduate in 2005 with a bachelor of arts in psychology. Her internship ends Aug. 3.
The interns assist staff members in tracking legislation, drafting policy memos, covering committee meetings, composing correspondence and writing and producing press releases.
