Cape Girardeau resident sentenced to two years in prison

An 18-year-old Cape Girardeau man who pleaded guilty Monday to a weapons charge received a two-year prison term. Perry L. Foulks of 336 N. Sprigg St. was sentenced immediately after pleading guilty to unlawful use of a weapon and fleeing from officers. He was charged April 12 after a Cape Girardeau detective and an Illinois State Police detective, who were questioning Foulks, found the gun in his home. As the Cape Girardeau detective called for evidence technicians for the gun, Foulks grabbed the gun and fled. He was caught about an hour later. At the time he fled, Foulks was being questioned about an Illinois burglary and assault March 27 in East Cape Girardeau. Assistant public defender Jennifer Booth told Circuit Judge William Syler that Foulks was pleading guilty to finish the matter. "He decided it would be better to do a short stint in prison, then come out on parole," she said. Foulks was sentenced to a one-year jail term on the charge of fleeing the police, a term that will be served concurrent to his prison time.
