A late-night canine search for a parole absconder came up empty-handed Thursday.

Officers of the Cape Girardeau Police Department unsuccessfully searched the Rockwood Drive area for more than an hour for Todd Lemont Williams, 34, of Springfield, Mo. The Cape Girardeau Fire Department assisted.

Cpl. Jason Selzer said Williams jumped out of a vehicle driven by his girlfriend as officers attempted to stop the vehicle.

Police had contacted Williams' girlfriend earlier in the day and informed her that they had an arrest warrant for Williams. They asked her to contact them if she knew of his whereabouts.

She was arrested Thursday for suspicion of hindering prosecution. She was released without charges.

Williams is wanted on a state parole warrant without bond.

Selzer said Williams is still at large.
