A Cape Girardeau man received a seven-year prison sentence Friday for second-degree assault.
In March, Jacob A. Yarbrough, 22, pleaded guilty to punching his former friend, Michael D. Siebert, repeatedly in the face while the other man was asleep in his home, according to Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle.
At a sentencing hearing Friday in Perry County, where the case was moved on a change of venue, Michael Mettes, attorney for Yarbrough, urged Syler to grant probation for his client.
Yarbrough said he was sorry for the incident and wanted a chance to pay restitution to the victim for the remaining $26,000 in medical bills incurred from his injuries.
Cape Girardeau County Circuit Judge William L. Syler ruled that probation was not appropriate for the assault and issued the seven years within the Missouri Department of Corrections, Swingle said.
