Cape Girardeau man pleads guilty to federal drug trafficking charges

A Cape Girardeau man pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to one felony count of conspiracy to distribute five grams or more of cocaine base, according to a news release from acting Federal Prosecutor Michael W. Reap's office.

With is plea Shaundale Johnson, 27, admits to selling crack cocaine to an informant on Dec. 19, 2008 in Charleston, Mo. The plea states that Johnson was joined by Mark A. Brand, who made the arrangement for the sale while in Cape Girardeau. Brand drove the informant from Cape Girardeau to Charleston to make the buy. Brand previously pleaded guilty, and his sentencing is set for Aug. 17.

Johnson faces a maximum of 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine. Sentencing has been set for Sept. 29.
