A Cape Girardeau man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday on Cape Girardeau County Road 618, a mile east of Jackson.

Lester Fornkohl, 78, the driver of an eastbound vehicle, suffered moderate injuries, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. He was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center.

The accident occurred at 4:52 p.m. when a westbound vehicle driven by Cody Phillips of East Prairie, Mo., crossed the center of the roadway and struck Fornkohl's vehicle, the patrol said. Firefighters from the East County and Cape Girardeau fire departments extricated Fornkohl from his vehicle, the patrol said.

The patrol cited Phillips for failing to drive on the right half of the roadway.
