A Cape Girardeau man pleaded guilty Monday to federal charges of selling crack cocaine, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Byron J. Carter, 26, had approximately 50 small bags containing crack stored in a baby wipes box when his home on South Spanish Street in Cape Girardeau was raided in November, federal prosecutors said.

Carter had two prior drug convictions in state court. He was on probation for a 2002 conviction for selling drugs when officers raided his home. He also currently faces charges in circuit court for selling drugs. Carter faces life in federal prison and a fine of up to $4 million. He will be sentenced on Nov. 21.
