A 19-year-old Cape Girardeau man was charged Tuesday with first-degree robbery, a crime authorities allege he committed early in the day while riding in a Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority van.
Malcolm U. Harris is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Darin Hickey, a spokesman with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said while in the van, Harris allegedly threatened the driver, claiming he had a weapon and demanded money. Once the driver handed over money, in the area of Maple and Ellis streets, Harris allegedly fled. Police arrested Harris around 2 a.m., after someone reported a disturbance in the same area.
