A fire Wednesday night at 507 S. Frederick St. is under investigation by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department. The flames broke through second-floor windows by the time firefighters from the city's four fire stations arrived, according to battalion chief Brad Dillow. Jackson and Scott City sent fire fighters to cover the city. The house appeared to be vacant, Dillow said. Christel Jones, who lives next door, said the people living in the home moved out three months ago. She said the rental home was once owned by former state representative Nathan Cooper. She said firefighters quickly doused the flames, but that the fire appeared aggressive. Dillow said it took less than five minutes to quell the blaze.
