Cape Girardeau fire crews are on the scene of a house fire in the vicinity of West End Boulevard and Wayne Street. According to Battalion Chief Brad Dillow, the single-story residential structure caught fire shortly after 6 a.m. He said no one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries to crews battling the blaze have been reported...

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1327 N. West End Blvd. around 6:30 a.m. Monday.

According to battalion chief Brad Dillow, no one was in the single-family home at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

The fire was contained to one bedroom. There was heavy fire damage to that room, and heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.

A department news release said all units in the city responded to the blaze, and mutual aid was received from crews in Jackson, Scott City and East County. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes.

Damage to the house is estimated at $30,000 to $40,000. The fire is still under investigation.
