* Members are from construction professions such as architects, engineers, contractors, plumbers and electricians.

* Board meets second Thursday at 7 p.m. at city hall.

* Board considers appeals of building codes.

Board of Examiners

* Eight members, but currently only seven as one position is vacant.

* Members serve three-year terms.

* Four of the eight members must have at least six years of practical experience in construction and be working at their construction trade at the time of appointment. Three members must be licensed in such trades as plumber, electrician, mechanical installer or construction contractor.

* Board meets first Wednesday at 7 p.m. at city hall.

* Board considers applications for building trades licenses.

Planning and Zoning Commission

* Eleven members

* Members serve four-year terms.

* Commission meets second Wednesday at 7 p.m. at city hall.

* Commission reviews and recommends actions on zoning changes, special-use permits and subdivision plans.

Public Awareness Advisory Council

* Composed of three council members.

* Members serve three-year terms.

Council meets third Monday at 4:15 p.m. in the city manager's office.

Public Library Board

* Nine members, but one position currently vacant.

* Members serve three-year terms

* Board meets fourth Thursday at 7 a.m. at the library.

* Board advises the library director on library operations and policies.

Historic Preservation Commission

* Eleven members including when possible city residents with architectural, real estate or other expertise related to historic preservation.

* Members serve three-year terms.

* Commission meets third Wednesday at 7 p.m. in city hall.

* Commission makes recommendations in keeping with the city's historic preservation ordinance and handles applications for local landmarks and historic districts.

Investment Committee

* Three members with expertise in finances.

* Board meets second Wednesday of second month of each quarter of the year.

* The board helps advise the city regarding investments.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

* Eleven members

* Members serve three-year terms.

* Board meets second Monday at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.

* Board makes recommendations regarding city parks and recreation programs.

Ethics Commission

* Seven members, but three positions currently vacant.

Tree Board

* Five members, including the public works director and the parks and recreation director.

* Members serve three-year terms.

* Board meets second Monday every other month, starting each year in February, at noon at the Osage Community Centre.

* Board administers a written plan regarding the pruning, planting and removal of trees in parks, along streets and in other public places.

Vision 2020 Community Relations Council

* Twelve members

* Members serve three-year terms.

* Council meets fourth Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office.

* Council focuses on community betterment.

TIF (Tax Increment Financing) Commission

* Eleven members, six appointed by the city council. Other local governmental entities including the Cape Girardeau School District are represented on the commission.

* City appointed members serve four-year terms.

* The commission meets as needed to consider developers' requests for tax-increment financing and make recommendations to the city council.

Cape Girardeau County University of Missouri Extension Council

* One member on the council is appointed to represent Cape Girardeau and Jackson; Cape Girardeau appoints the member as it is the larger city.

* Member serves two-year term

* The council advises the local extension service.

Cape Girardeau Area Magnet Association

* Two council members are appointed by the city council to serve on the industrial recruitment organization's board.

* Members serve one-year terms.

* The board helps direct the operations of the industrial recruitment organization led by executive director Mitch Robinson.

Special Business Dist. Advisory Commission

* Five members

* Members are downtown property owners. They serve three-year terms.

Commission administers tax-funded downtown special business district. Board must meet once a year.

River Campus Board of Managers

* Six members: Three appointed by the city council and three by the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents.

* Members serve three-year terms.

Board meets monthly as needed to help plan the development and operation of the university's River Campus arts school and performance venues.

Show Me Center Board of Managers

* Six members: Three appointed by the city council and three by the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents.

* Members serve three-year terms.

* Board meets first Wednesday every other month.

* Board supervises use of Show Me Center facilities.

Convention and Visitors Bureau Task Force

* Two members

* Board includes a representative appointed by the city council and a council member who serves as an ex-officio member of the task force.

* A second council member also serves on the task force, but she was appointed by the chamber prior to being elected to the city council.

* Task force meets third Thursday at 4 p.m. at the CVB office.

* The task force advises the CVB which the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce operates under a contract with the city.
