The Cape Girardeau sales tax measure known as TTF-4 was endorsed Tuesday by the board of directors of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce. In an unanimous vote announced in a news release, the board asked voters to support the Aug. 3 proposal to extend the half-cent sales tax that pays for major road building and maintenance projects. The tax, first approved in 1995, has been renewed twice. It raises about $4 million annually for road projects. "I'm pleased the chamber board has endorsed the Transportation Trust Fund 4 initiative," John Mehner, president and chief executive officer of the chamber, said in the news release. "This program has proven itself in the previous 15 years by completing projects across the city which have enhanced our transportation infrastructure."
