BENTON, Mo. -- A Cape Girardeau doctor was arrested has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
According to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, officers Tuesday noticed the man was driving erractically and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and alcohol.
Dr. Stephen P. Sugarbaker, 54, failed a sobriety test at the scene, according to Sheriff Rick Walter.
Walter said that during the stop, officers found prescription medication in Sugarbaker's vehicle that allegedly belonged to a co-worker.
While Sugarbaker was being booked into the Scott County jail, deputies found a small bag containing prescription medication.
His bond is set at $15,000.
