The Cape County Women of Law Enforcement recently raised $1,279 for the bullet proof vest fund drive.
The money was raised through sale of cookbooks. The check was presented to Charles Herbst, president of the Cape Girardeau Regional Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #33, which is sponsoring the drive. It is the goal of the FOP to make a "bullet-resistant" vest available for all area law enforcement officers based on need, explained Donna Eakins with the Cape County Women of Law Enforcement.
The Cape County Women on Law Enforcement membership consists of wives of sworn law enforcement officers, women who are law enforcement officers, and women with a special interest in law enforcement. Their objective is to further relations between law enforcement departments, and to assist any officer or his/her family in time of need. The group regularly meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Cape Girardeau Police Training Room.
The club recently elected its officers. They are: Crystal Barker as president, Tammy Dively as vice president, Sydney Herbst as secretary, Debbie Gregory as treasurer, Lisa Beckham as historian, Judy Gentry as reporter, and JoAnn Hardesty as corresponding secretary.
