All 1998 tax bills for Cape Girardeau County have been mailed, said County Collector Harold Kuehle.

Anyone who owns real estate in the county, regardless of when it was purchased, owes real estate tax.

Anyone owning automobiles, boats, airplanes or other similar items as of Jan. 1, 1998, owes personal property tax for the year.

Failure to receive a tax bill doesn't relieve anyone from paying taxes.

Taxes are due Dec. 31. As of Jan. 1 interest and penalty begins.

More than 55,000 tax bills have been mailed. The largest number will be paid by mail after Dec. 26.
