Now that Cape Girardeau County commissioners have agreed to a new Web site, they are looking for suggestions.
Eric McGowen, the county's information technology director, said the county wants to get any and all suggestions from residents. But officials are particularly interested in the following categories:
McGowen said the suggestions can be signed or anonymous.
Ideas can be submitted by e-mail at commish@capecounty.us; fax, 573-204-2493; or first-class mail, to Cape Girardeau County Commission, Re: Website Suggestions, 1 Barton Square, Jackson, Mo., 63755.
McGowen asked that anyone sending information put the words "Web site suggestions" in the subject line or another prominent place.
While there is no deadline for suggestions, McGowen said, for design purposes, the sooner tips are received the better the final design will be.
"It was intentional that we didn't include a deadline, though," he said. "We want suggestions to be ongoing, even after the site is developed. We're always looking for great content and great ideas."
He said he's also talking with county employees and hoping they also submit suggestions.
"So far, it's mainly just been informal discussions," he said. "I take a lot of notes."
Depending on the level of response, the county may hold a public forum to gather suggestions in an informal setting.
"We want to make sure we have as much input as possible," he said. "We are, as a government, representing Cape Girardeau County and we want to make sure the information and presentation is agreeable to the citizens of our county."
He said ideas so far have included a more professional presentation overall, including repackaging the prosecuting attorney's pages, and finding ways to showcase emergency management messages on the county's home page.
