Family members found a man dead after he did not return home as expected Friday afternoon.
Robert Jones, 71, was electrocuted while working at a pond with an electric sump pump, according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau County coroner's office.
Coroner John Clifton said he and the sheriff's department investigated the death shortly after it was reported at 1 p.m. They ruled it accidental.
"We came to the same conclusion," he said. "It was some type of electrical malfunction."
Jones lived on County Road 256 northwest of Delta. Clifton said family members reported the death after they found Jones at the edge of the pond.
