Cape Girardeau County sheriff's deputies and federal agencies are investigating an apparent explosion on a bridge near Oak Ridge, Lt. David James reported Sunday.
Deputies investigating damage to the bridge on County Road 459 called in agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help with the investigation after discovering the damage appeared to have been caused by some type of explosive device, James wrote in an email message to local media outlets.
Neighbors reported hearing a loud noise early Sunday morning, James wrote.
He asked anyone with information about the explosion to call the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department at 243-3551.
