The Cape Girardeau County Commission hopes to receive funding to replace a bridge whose wood piling could deteriorate over time.

During its meeting Monday, the commission approved asking for the Missouri Department of Transportation for funding that would replace County Road 233 through the Off-System Bridge Replacement program, which awards money for replacement of bridges throughout the state.

The bridge, which 1st District Commissioner Paul Koeper said is not an immediate danger, is just north of Route A.

If the funding is approved by MoDOT, the commission would then seek recommendations to hire an engineering consultant to design the bridge.
