Republican candidates to be the next Cape Girardeau County 2nd District commissioner will get a chance to make their case to voters at a forum Thursday.

The event, sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Pachyderm Club, starts at 7 p.m. at Dexter Bar-B-Que, 236 S. Broadview St., in Cape Girardeau.

The three Republican candidates pursuing the seat -- Moe Sandfort, Charlie Herbst and incumbent Jay Purcell -- will each take part, and incumbent 1st District Commissioner Paul Koeper will also be in attendance, though he is unopposed in the upcoming election, according to a Pachyderm Club news release.

The program is open to the public. The club will have a business meeting at 6:45 p.m. before the forum starts at 7 p.m. Those who wish to eat dinner are encouraged to come earlier.
