The Cape Girardeau County Commission approved the recommendations of the county's health insurance committee and awarded the 2011 employee group health insurance contract to Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Total annual cost will be $1,007,218.60. The commission also agreed to reimburse employees $500 once their $1,000 annual deductible has been met...

The Cape Girardeau County Commission approved the recommendations of the county's health insurance committee and awarded the 2011 employee group health insurance contract to Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Total annual cost will be $1,007,218.60.

The commission also agreed to reimburse employees $500 once their $1,000 annual deductible has been met.

The committee recommended the group dental, vision and basic life insurance be awarded to Guardian at a total annual cost of $59,821.80 and long term disability insurance be awarded to Hartford at a rate of 21 cents per $100 of covered salary.

The county will also offer a Medicare supplement alternative to employees age 65 and older as a benefit choice.

The recommendations follow a bidding process and consultation with Marathon Benefits Group, the county's benefits broker.

Other business:

* Commissioners said they would like to grant preliminary approval to the budget Monday. Final approval will be in January.

* Walt Wildman was appointed to the domestic violence authority board.

* John Thompson was appointed to the Southeast Missouri Port Authority board.

* Dawn Caruso, Ruth Dockins and Janice Unger were appointed to the mental health board.

* The county agreed to pay for commissioners' training and dues.

* Commissioners approved the purchase of a plasma cutter for the highway department for $1,500 from Ozark Gas.

* Commissioners approved the purchase of three computers, four monitors and one dual monitor adapter for the auditor's office for $2,740 from Innovative Idea. The equipment will be purchased with money from the auditor's new equipment fund.

* Commissioners approved the purchase of one computer and one dual monitor adapter for the mapping office for $694 from Innovative Idea. The equipment will be purchased with money from the assessor's new equipment fund.

* Commissioners approved the purchase of a new copier for the prosecuting attorney's office for $4,987.20 from GFI Digital. Monthly maintenance will be $510 annually and include 5,000 copies per month. After 5,000 copies .0085 cent per copy will be assessed.
