Two Cape Girardeau County projects are moving ahead after action by the county commission Monday.
For a road-paving project set for this year, Apex Paving Co. of Cape Girardeau submitted the lowest and best bid.
Commissioner Paul Koeper said the $46.80 per ton was a very good price, as the bids ranged from $46.80 to $64 per ton.
Apexs bid was accepted unanimously, with Commissioner Charlie Herbst absent.
The project will include overlay of county roads in need of repair, Koeper said, and some new roads will also be constructed.
In other action, Koeper recommended giving the go-ahead to utility companies to move existing utility lines in the current sheriffs department office parking lot.
The lines will need to be moved prior to construction of the new justice center, Koeper said, as the lines are presently in the middle of the lot, where they are a hindrance.
The estimate from the city of Jackson to move the water line should not exceed $12,000, Koeper said.
The electricity line would cost approximately $2,700 to relocate, Koeper said.
For Liberty Utilities to relocate the natural gas lines, Koeper said, the cost would be approximately $1,500, and ideally, that move would happen this summer, when the heating system isnt in operation.
The funding for these moves would come from the construction fund for the new justice center, Koeper said.
The justice center will house county courtrooms and other county offices, according to earlier reporting by the Southeast Missourian.
The motion to begin the process to move the utility lines passed unanimously, with Herbst absent.
