Cape County Commission approves new vehicle, detention services for Juvenile Office

The Cape Girardeau County Commission approved a handful of agenda items during their Monday, July 1, meeting, including the purchase of a new vehicle for the State of Missouri 32nd Judicial District’s Juvenile Office within the county.

“They’ve got a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee that received water damage to the engine, totally malfunctioning it,” Presiding Commissioner Clint Tracy said. “The bill to fix it is $7,700.59, so I think they’re asking just to sell that."

Tracy and Associate Commissioners Charlie Herbst and Paul Koeper also approved detention services for the Juvenile Office, agreeing to a $95 per day rate to take in juveniles from Stoddard County.

They disbursed money to Penzel Construction in Jackson for its work on the 1908 county courthouse and the new jail developments, as well. The former cost $521,004.25 from the county’s capital improvement fund. The latter was for $1,511,838.55 and came from 2022 certificates of participation.
