Cape Girardeau County commissioners granted a formal extension Thursday to Elmer Buchheit Construction, Inc. for completion of grading on County Road 233 near Whitewater. The original timeline was compromised by rainy weather and unexpected site requirements.
Scott Bechtold, county highway administrator, said all work was completed by Oct. 22. He said the extension was recorded belatedly to ensure there was documentation that the delay was approved by county, that no other projects were negatively impacted and that Buchheit Construction was not penalized for elements of the job that were beyond their control.
The county also reviewed the Nov. 28 resolution by Jackson to annex a portion of Fruitland. The county received a petition for independent incorporation by Fruitland residents in August and was not able to act until Jackson had a full year to make a decision about annexing the area. The county commission has not yet formally stated a position on the incorporation of Fruitland.
