JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau County Clerk Rodney Miller has been appointed to a panel intended to offer guidance to the 27 new county clerks that were elected to office last month.
Secretary of State Matt Blunt, a Republican, named Miller, a Democrat, and four other veteran clerks to the group. The panel will meet with the new officeholders at Blunt's office Thursday and Friday.
"It will provide a sort of training session for the new county clerks," Miller said. "Some have not worked in a county clerk's office before and it will be quite an awakening for them."
Miller said 27 new clerks taking office at the same time is a higher than normal rate of turnover.
"Rodney Miller will bring valuable experience and insight to this panel," Blunt said. "I'm sure that the new clerks will benefit from his knowledge and experience administrating elections and running an efficient and effective county clerk's office."
