Cape Girardeau County has been chosen to receive $17,560 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area.
A national board, chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, distributes funds appropriated by Congress to help expand food and shelter programs around the country.
In Cape Girardeau County, a local board made up of the American Red Cross, East Missouri Action Agency, FISH Volunteers of Cape, Jackson Food Pantry, Safe House for Women Inc., Salvation Army and Area Wide United Way will determine how the money will be distributed here.
Organizations chosen to receive funds must be non-profit, have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit, practice non-discrimination, have demonstrated the ability to deliver food or shelter, and have a voluntary board.
For more information, call the Area Wide United Way at 573-334-9634.
