JACKSON -- Cape Girardeau County Auditor H. Weldon Macke recently was named a member of the National Association of Counties' Taxation and Finance Steering Committee.

The association's 13 steering committees form its policy-making arm. Macke's committee focuses on financial resources of counties, fiscal management, federal assistance, municipal borrowing, county revenues and federal tax reform.

Macke said Cape County's membership in the association is important to its wellbeing.

"This is a great organization," he said. "It lets us know when there are issues in the House or Senate that will affect the counties. NACo is a big lobbying group, so we have input on federal legislation."

NACo is the only national organization representing county governments in the United States.
