The Cape Girardeau County Archive Center is in the process of creating a book about the old schools of Cape Girardeau County.

Anyone interested in these old schools is invited to attend a meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Archive Center.

The Archive Center is at 112 E. Washington in Jackson, just north of the county courthouse.

Book organizers are particularly interested in people who would be willing to write a one- or two-page article about the school they attended for inclusion in the book.

A sample article will be available as a guide.

At the workshop, organizers will work with participants and show them all the information that can be found in old school records.

People in possession of old school records are encouraged to donate them to the Archive Center's collection.

The collection currently includes five rolls of microfilm, 586 books, files and maps.

Those interested in participating may call 204-2331 to reserve a place at the workshop.

Seating is limited.

The workshop will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
