The Cape Girardeau County Commission approved Monday a contract with an electronic document processing company toward further using digital technology in the recorder's office.

Simplifile LC of Provo, Utah, will securely process official documents according to specifications set by the recorder's office. The cost of filing is paid by those submitting the documents, so there is no cost to the county for using the service.

Recorder Scott R. Clark has been working for more than a year to bring e-recording to the county, which he says will save money and increase efficiency. He said Monday he plans to issue a news release outlining the details of the process within a few weeks.
